Start the new school year by helping pupils discover what makes a happy, supportive and successful classroom. Our Class Recipe – Back to School Year 3 and 4 is a complete 60-minute lesson that encourages children to share ideas, work together and think about how they can make a positive contribution to their new class.

Based on the child-friendly concept of creating a recipe, the lesson invites pupils to choose the essential ‘ingredients’ for a brilliant school year. Through discussion and practical activities, they consider qualities such as kindness, honesty, courage and patience, alongside positive behaviours including listening carefully, trying their best and cooperating with others.

Children respond to a selection of familiar classroom situations and consider how thoughtful choices can help everyone feel safe, valued and ready to learn. Working in groups, they then combine their ideas to produce a class recipe before completing an individual promise about the special quality they will contribute during the year ahead.
